The Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Ports held its first meeting of the year on 5 March 2025. At this meeting, the social partners of the committee, together with representatives of the European Commission, addressed key issues such as the current state of the social chapter of the EU port strategy, updates on the implementation of the EU ETS and Fuel EU Maritime, as well as the advances in port security related to the European strategy against drug trafficking and the protection of European ports and their workers.
During the meeting, EDC shared its position and expectations on each of these points, highlighting the importance of protecting workers’ rights and jobs, and ensuring the sustainability of the sector. In addition, EDC took the opportunity to denounce the worrying situation of Erik Helgeson, a member of the Swedish Dockworkers’ Union victim of union discrimination, stressing the need for solidarity and support in the defense of trade union rights across Europe.
