The European Dockworkers unions, members of the European Dockworkers Council (EDC), met in Barcelona to prepare for the upcoming EDC Congress 2025, which will take place in Le Havre (France) on November 18 and 19.
The meeting, opened by the EDC General Coordinator, Anthony Tetard, brought together around 40 delegates from member unions.
During the meeting, projects and work proposals were discussed and approved, and the agenda for the Congress was set, and all the members reiterated their commitment to peace in the world.
The EDC is based on fundamental principles such as solidarity, equality, democracy, social justice, unity, and respect for human rights. Its collective work aims to put the well-being of port workers and their families at the heart of present and future priorities.
To achieve this goal, the organization defends and represents the interests of European dockworkers and port workers in various decision-making bodies, including the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee of the European Union, as well as in forums, advisory bodies, and evaluation committees. It aspires to become a reference point with its own voice, both in Europe and internationally, on all matters affecting the port sector.
With a forward-looking vision, the EDC reaffirms its commitment to the creation of decent jobs, the protection of workers’ rights, and the building of a fairer society. Thus, it positions itself as the common voice of European dockworkers and port workers, advocating for higher rights standards, the reduction of inequalities, and the strengthening of a progressist and so more equitable social Europe.
