A delegation from the European Dockworkers Council (EDC) visited Brussels this week to hold key meetings with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and discuss the pressing priorities and challenges faced by dockworkers across Europe.

During these discussions, the EDC delegation emphasized critical issues such as defending fair working conditions, ensuring workplace safety and security, and safeguarding labor rights and jobs against attempts to automate port terminals. They also addressed the regulatory and economic changes that are reshaping the European port sector, stressing the need for policies that protect workers and promote sustainability.

As a result of these meetings, several plans for permanent cooperation between EDC and European institutions have been established. These initiatives aim to strengthen the representation of dockworkers in European decision-making processes, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

EDC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the interests of dockworkers, advocating for a sustainable and fair port sector that prioritizes workers’ rights, safety, and long-term job security amidst the challenges of a rapidly evolving industry.

A special thanks to MEPs François Kalfon, Konstantinos Arvanitis, Arash Saeidi, Lina Galvéz, Oihane Orrigoitiamar, Maria Zacharia, Irena Joveva, Irene Montero and their teams.
