The European Dockworkers Council (EDC) participated today, September 26, in the international meeting organized in Genoa as part of the days dedicated to world peace.

Indeed, several union comrades, members of the EDC, were present at this initiative.

This meeting aims to coordinate a union response against wars and, more specifically, against the Palestinian genocide, while strengthening cooperation between European and Mediterranean dockworkers.

The EDC emphasizes that peace and solidarity are fundamental values that must guide the activity of our unions of dockworkers and port workers, reaffirming that ports must be spaces of work and peaceful coexistence, free from conflict and weaponry, and not instruments of war.

In this regard, the EDC has published a manifesto demanding the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors to ensure the supply of food, water, and medicine to the population of Gaza.

The EDC highlights the importance of maintaining a unified and representative position that transcends national borders and promotes international cooperation for peace. Its participation in these days reflects its commitment to the values of peace and solidarity.

Furthermore, the EDC calls on the international community to recognize the State of Palestine and to promote policies that foster peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. The peaceful mission of the Global Flotilla Sumud, which seeks to end the blockade of Gaza, is a clear example among others of how international action can contribute to building a future based on peace and justice.

The EDC will continue working to ensure that international union initiatives reflect the values of peace, solidarity, and mutual respect that define its action, reaffirming its commitment to dockworkers and the defense of human rights worldwide.

In response to the proposal to participate in an initiative that transcends our international affiliations, the EDC is therefore in favor of all member unions signing the declaration proposed during this initiative on September 26 in Genoa, which brought together 10 dockworkers unions from Europe and beyond.
