With great sadness, the European Dockworkers Council (EDC) expresses its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the tragic explosion in the port of Iran. Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and with the more than one thousand injured who face a painful recovery.

This devastating incident highlights the urgent need to improve organization and safety in ports worldwide. The lack of adequate safety measures and organization not only jeopardizes port infrastructure but also endangers the lives of all dockworkers who strive daily to maintain the flow of global trade.

The EDC strongly denounces the negligence that has contributed to this tragedy and demands immediate action to ensure that all ports implement robust and effective safety protocols. The life and safety of dockworkers must be an absolute priority.

We stand in solidarity with the dockworkers of Iran and around the world, and we reiterate our commitment to fighting for safe and dignified working conditions for all.
